Safety PUR receives positive feedback from customers
While just 15 years ago working with PUR thermoplastic adhesives required that bookbinders have considerable improvisational skills and a certain willingness to take risks, these reactive adhesives have now become a fixture in the perfect binding business. Alongside the development of innovative melting and coating systems, the quality and properties of PUR have been continually improved and adapted to meet the increased demands.
Consequently, formulas exist for slot-die coaters, small perfect binders and large high-speed machines as well as for PUR thermoplastic adhesives exempt from volatile organic compound (VOC) labelling requirements. For VOC-exempt thermoplastic adhesives, the isocyanates required for curing are chemically bonded in such a way that they can no longer escape from the hotmelt mass.
Since early 2010, Planatol has been offering the VOC-exempt PUR thermoplastic adhesive known as "Safety PUR", which has received very good feedback from customers. The new VP 2954 S-PUR has a very fast setting time, making it possible to avoid offset stacking. This PUR product can be used equally with reliable roll coaters as well as with slot-die coaters. For good melt stability, the reactivity of VP 2954 S-PUR is only slightly lower than that of conventional PUR. Due to the high reactivity of the adhesive, customers can further process and deliver their products faster. The attainable pull values and the durability of the perfect bindings are generally excellent.
All PUR adhesives by Planatol are developed in the company's laboratory and are produced at the Rohrdorf plant in Rosenheim.
